The UEFA Champions League. 32 are the teams involved in the first phase of the UEFA Champions League and they are splitted into 8 groups, from A to H, of four teams in each of them. Only the first two teams of each group is admitted to the knockout phase. The eight teams that finish the first phase at the third place cross over into the knockout phase of the UEFA Cup. From the first knockout round to the semi-finals, all matches are played as first and second leg, while the final takes place in only one match. Born in 1955, the Champions League has become during the past years the most prestigious football trophy in the old country.
