Lazio won the Italian Tim Cup. Sampdoria beated at the penalties

Coppa Italia, Final 2009: Lazio won the TIM Cup 2009 beating the Sampdoria in the final of Rome after 7 penalties for team.

Lazio – Sampdoria: at the Stadio Olimpico, unusual final between Lazio and Sampdoria for a trophy that means the qualification for the european Cup for these two teams. In the first half Lazio starts in the best possible way: at the 4th minute Zarate converges to the center from the left and score behind Castellazzi. Umpteenth great goal for Mauro Zarate. But is the Samp who controls the match. After 30 minutes Cassano find Stankevicious in area. Assist for Pazzini that quickly score by head. Sampdoria equalizes the result: 1-1. In the second part of the match Lazio seems to have more stamina. Sampdoria is compelled to defend. Nothing to do for the team who plays home and it’s overtime.

In Lazio Rocchi and Del Nero substitute Pandev and Foggia. For Samp Del Vecchio and Dessena instead of Franceschini and Sammarco. In the first of the two overtimes, even Cassano and Dabo try from outside with no results. In the second overtime both teams are exhausted. Cassano tries a trick but De Silvestri saves the match.

Penalties: first Cassano, Muslera saves the door! Ledesma, goal. Palombo, goal. Rocchi, goalpost! Pazzini, goal. Rozenhal, goal. Gastaldello, goal. Kolarov, goal. Accardi, goal. Zarate, goal. Del Vecchio, goal. Liechtsteiner, goal. Campagnaro, Muslera block the ball! Dabo, goal! Lazio won.

This is the fifth Coppa Italia title for Lazio. The team is now qualified for the next Europe League (the new Uefa Cup).
