Milan transfers: the society of Silvio Berlusconi, finally, accomplished its first big market purchase. A.C. Milan signed the free agent, american defender, Oguchi Onyewu.

A.C. Milan officialized the purchase of the 27 years old Onyewu. The player was at the end of the contract with the Standard Liège. The central defender is originally from Nigeria (with belgium passport), but plays in the US national team. He recently impressed during the last Confederations Cup.

Onyewu signed a 3 years contract, and will be a Milan player until June the 30th 2012.

Here the official announcement on the AC Milan website:

AC Milan announces to have signed defender OGUCHI ONYEWU, from Standard Liège, at the end of his contract. The player, who played the American national team, is also in possession of the Belgian passport and signed a contract which expires on June 30 2012. This operation proves once again the excellent friendship between our club and Standard Liege, and in particular, with vice president Luciano D’Onofrio.

It is too hard to think that Onyewy will replace the departure of Kakà. But this is the first piece of a series of purchases. Good news for Leonardo and his defense.
