The Serie A TIM: the most important national championship of the most followed sport. 20 teams that meet themselves in two rounds in order to rise in ranking and try to conquer the title: "Scudetto".

Twenty teams, 20 kits, twenty venti flags and groups of supporters that build up the most fascinating and interesting of the World.

However the national championship is not the only competition, especially for the teams that are not capable to fight for it; the first four teams have the access to the Champions League; from the fifth to the seventh there is a place for Uefa Cup; the 8th can go in the UEFA cup through the Intertoto tournament. The last 3 teams are relegated to the serie B.

The Serie A league is officially instituted in 1929. However the italian championship counts in also the tournaments started from 1898, even those with few teams involved. The rules changed several times. Initially the tournament was divided in two separate leagues. In 50's it switched to a single league. Several times the number of teams changed from 20 to 18 and viceversa. Actually the championship counts 20 teams.

Serie A records: the greatest number of victories in a row is owned by Inter with 17 victories (who makes better than Roma with 11 victories). The greatest number of starting victories belong to Juventus (9 victories). The record of appearances in Serie A is owned by Paolo Maldini (600 appearances), followed by Pagliuca, Costacurta and Peruzzi.
